The Chairman of the RLA (Residential Landlords Association) has written to the Chief Executive of Shelter in regard to their claims that 125,000 tenants in England are being abused by landlords. This is a serious claim which the RLA believe is unacceptable. The RLA condemn any landlord who engages in threats or harassment of tenants but finds the reported numbers hard to believe and have asked for them to be published in full. In particular, an example is given of a tenant called Chris renting in London and then another example of a tenant also called Chris renting in the north of England with both reports being identical word for word. Further, the figures do not add up and are contradictory implying that Shelter is being selective in the data it chooses to publish.
