EVICTIONS DELAYED AS COURTS STRUGGLE WITH CASELOADS

The majority of eviction claims are dealt with by the County Courts, but they are currently struggling with an increased number of possession claims and a lack of resources to deal with them. Some courts are also insisting that bailiffs must work in pairs, exacerbating the shortage of bailiffs and causing delays. Julie Herbert, Head of Legal and Landlord Action, says “We are forever chasing courts for updates on possession orders, notice of issues or bailiff appointments. By the courts’ own admission cases are getting overlooked, administrative errors are being made and there are simply not enough bailiffs to support the number of cases, leading to longer delays.”
