Rents rose faster in Brighton, Bristol, Edinburgh and Newcastle than they did in London in the last year. Brighton and Bristol saw an 18% increase whilst Edinburgh and Newcastle rents rose by 16%. The fastest rising rents were in Liverpool, Glasgow, Coventry and Leeds with average rents at £673, £636, £754 and £691 respectively. Martin Totty of Barbon Insurance Group said “In recent years London has seen much faster rates of increase than the rest of the country, but it may be that an affordability ceiling has now been reached and that rents will now track other parts of the UK more closely.”
